  • If you approve the work, the £10 is credited towards the final bill.
  • If you decline, the machine is returned unrepaired with no further charge.

Where can I get my sewing machine repaired in Dundee?

You can bring your sewing machine to Repair It Scotland at 2 Haldane Place, Dundee, DD3 0JR. Drop-off and collection are by appointment only, so please book before travelling. Look for the Repair It Scotland signage.

What areas do you serve?

I serve customers across Dundee, Fife and Angus, including Broughty Ferry, Kirkcaldy, Cupar, Arbroath, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Coupar Angus, Carnoustie and Monifieth. Pickup and delivery may also be available. I do not provide domestic house calls, but business visits can be considered individually.

How much does repair cost?

It depends on whether the machine is mechanical, electronic or computerised and whether parts are required. Minor fixes can be around £10, while more involved jobs can exceed £100. Most repairs are around £40–£70 including standard parts. You will receive a clear estimate before additional work goes ahead.

How long does repair usually take?

Typical turnaround is 5–7 days. I offer an emergency option; if no parts are needed, many jobs finish within 24 hours. If parts are required, timing depends on supplier stock and rush shipping.

Do you repair all brands and models?

Yes — if it has a needle, I’ll work on it. I service mechanical, electronic, and many computerised models. For very high-end computerised machines, I’ll assess it and advise the best route (including manufacturer options if appropriate).

Can you repair vintage sewing machines?

Yes. I handle both repairs and (when requested) restorations. Many customers choose repair for sentimental reasons—family heirlooms and classic models usually run beautifully again after service.

Do I need an appointment or can I drop in?

Dundee and the Letham, Fife home workshop are by appointment only. Please call or message first and I will send you the booking-calendar link. No appointment is needed at Letham Crafts or Topstitch Kirkcaldy; simply visit during the shop’s normal opening hours.

What common problems do you fix?

Timing and tension issues, skipped stitches, electrical faults, and “needs a deep clean/oil.” Many faults overlap and are prevented by regular servicing.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes—generally a 30-day warranty on repair work. Supplier warranties apply to parts (labour for replacement not included). Misuse isn’t covered. If a repair is found deficient, I’ll take care of it.

Do you service & clean machines as well?

Yes. Full servicing includes thorough cleaning, correct oiling, and checking timing/tension to prevent common issues.

What should I bring with my machine?

Please include:

  • Foot control (pedal)
  • An empty bobbin and the bobbin case
  • A regular presser foot (zigzag foot if your machine zigzags)

Keep covers, manuals, and extra attachments unless needed for testing.

Do you sell machines or accept trade-ins?

No sales or trade-ins. That keeps my advice unbiased. Occasionally I accept a donated machine; suitable models are serviced and passed to a local charity that teaches sewing.
